While visiting the Crispin Family in New Jersey I asked my friend Erin when she started to read chapter books to her kids. She proceeded to list numerous chapter books that the kids love. So when we returned back to Massachusetts I decided to set out in search of a short chapter book that Jayden could follow. I did a little research and came across the Magic Tree House collection by Mary Pope Osborne. So far, so good! Jayden really seems to like them and after every chapter we do a re-cap as to what happened. The only problem I am encountering is that they’re too short! Jayden wants to just keep reading (delaying bed time?) but if I read more than 2 chapters a day we finish the book in less than a week. The books are super cheap and can be bought on Amazon.com or The Christmas Tree Shop where my mom found a whole collection of them.
>One of my New Year’s resolutions is to read one book a month. I know, not a very ambitious goal but I may be the world’s slowest reader!
I had the pleasure of meeting Bobbie Houston during the launch of HillsongNYC. She might possibly be the most kind-hearted, warm, caring, sweetest human I’ve ever met. It was the first time we met and she made me feel like we’ve known eachother for years. She has such a passion for Jesus and spreading His Word. So I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the new year with one of her books. It is an easy read, full of inspiring words and will really get you thinking about your church and church family.
My recommended reading for January is Heaven is in this House by Bobbie Houston.
>The other day I wrote about a few of my favorite blogs. While I knew all along my friend Erin’s husband had a blog I never sat down to read all of his posts like I do on Erin’s blog. Well he caught my attention with his latest series on pursing athletic greatness as a Christian. It is a must read! So I will add to my blog roll!
Make sure to check out his latest post about being fired over a tie. It will definitely give you a laugh! 🙂
Meals with Maria
I forgot to add this one! My friend Maria has some great recipes that are super healthy and most are made from scratch!
We Use Coupons
My latest addiction. Please don’t make fun of me. The other night, I found myself watching Extreme Couponing on TLC and felt challenged. Therefore, I took the challenge to start seriously using coupons. So far my greatest deals have been: 4 Bottles of Xtra Laundry Detergent and 9 rolls of Scott Paper Towels for a total of $4.03! And on Monday I bought 4 tubes of Colgate Toothpaste and Scrubbing Bubbles Shower Cleaner for $1.97! I love a challenge 🙂
(And yes, the latest paragraph shows that I have a lot of free time on my hands – HA)!
>5 months ago I wrote about Even Now by Karen Kingsbury. I was excited to report to you about the sequel Ever After but apparently time passed and I didn’t finished it as quickly as I would’ve liked to. So here it goes: the sequel was just as good as the first book. It is kind of a fairytale but once in a while, I good fairytale is good for the soul.
I will forewarn you, bring a box of tissues with you because I sobbed uncontrollably toward the end of the book. I couldn’t stop. I had to put the book down and walk away on numerous occasions. It is a longer book but a very easy read. If I wasn’t the worlds slowest reader, you probably would’ve had this book review months ago!
Thanks Leigh for the great book!
>When we were about to leave Richmond this past weekend, my friend Leigh, handed me this book. It was longer then most books I read but she said it is an amazing book so I figured I would check it out. While Jayden and Adam were bonding on the plane ride home I decide to start reading the first couple chapters to see if I would like it. Well let’s just say, I loved it. I finished the book in three days and I can’t wait to read the sequel. The sequel was voted the number one christian book of 2007! I can’t wait to report on the sequel but honestly, it is a quick read and I totally recommend it.
>I just finished “It’s Your Time” by Joel Osteen and I highly recommend it. It was given as a gift to Adam but thankfully I got my heads on it before Adam could. The book is about raising your expectations, not giving up hope and how supernatural things will happen in your life with a bit little faith and trust in the Lord.
>The problem with parenting books is that every child is different. Based on countless books I’ve read I have never found a book a completely agree with; however, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child comes pretty close. I may not agree with everything in the book but for my personal experience Dr. Marc Weissbluth really knows what he is talking about. This book works.
